I know, this is not a true "remote control" in some sense, but it is highly recommended.
For Optimal control, you will want a trackball mouse and a keyboard combined. I like to watch my HTPC w/ only a trackball mouse. It is wired and works better than any joystick - type mouse so far. I suggest this keyboard-mouse combo as it is functional and has gotten great reviews on Amazon.
